Word of Wisdom |

Blessed Anthony the Great |

Those who lead their lives through small and minor ordeals, on the one hand rid themselves of danger, and on the other, have no need for special precautions against it. In conquering the various sinful inclinations, they auspiciously discover the path leading toward God. |

Meeting the Funding Requirements of Parish Life
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
Each and every one of us should be seeking to educate ourselves (and our families) about appropriate Christian stewardship of our resources, especially our material resources. Part of this process is to learn more about and to take greater responsibility for the important issue of funding the work of our local parish.

While there have been a number of other locations suggested as the biblical site of Mount Sinai, also referred to as Mount Horeb, the traditional location is a peak in the central southern Sinai Peninsula. This site and the surrounding area are steeped in Biblical tradition. All around Mount Sinai are locations and sites that have been associated with Biblical places named in the Exodus, and there is a long oral tradition of their authenticity. However, there is no proven archaeological evidence that this, or any of the other suggested alternate locations of Mount Sinai, is the actual one referred to in the Bible. Nevertheless, this mountain has drawn pilgrims for over a thousand years in the overwhelming belief that it is the Holy Mountain, and its tradition as the Biblical peak can be directly traced back to the fourth century AD. John Lloyd Stephens said that “Among all the stupendous works of Nature, not a place can be selected more fitting for the exhibition of Almighty power.” |

Archdeacon Roman Skvarnavicius Dear Brothers and Sisters,It is with deep sadness, that I announce that our beloved brother Archdeacon Roman Skvarnavicius has fallen asleep in the Lord on Saturday morning (2/10). Fr. Roman had been struggling with kidney cancer for several months. Many members of our community have known him since he was a young boy. He grew up in faith and dedicated his entire life to the faithful service to God and people and he left this life to the Desired Fatherland in peace and with prayer. Our parish was blessed to have him as a concelebrant and a loving brother. The services will be held at our church. Funeral service will be on Monday, 2/12 at 6:30 pm and Memorial Liturgy and burial on Tuesday 2/13 at 10:30 am. We know that Fr. Roman’s love touched the lives of many people and we expect numerous guests of clergy and laity. His Grace Bishop Nikon will preside over the services. May the memory of the newly departed and ever-memorable Archdeacon Roman be eternal. |
